WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski of Western Springs was the only House Democrat from Illinois to break ranks with his president and party and oppose a landmark health care reform measure adopted Sunday.

While 11 other Democrats from Illinois voted for the historic reforms, all seven House Republicans from Illinois were in opposition.

The Illinois Democrats who favored the measure were: Danny Davis, Luis Gutierrez, Jesse Jackson Jr., Mike Quigley and Bobby Rush, all of Chicago; Melissa Bean of Barrington; Jerry Costello of Belleville; Bill Foster of Batavia; Deborah Halvorson of Crete; Phil Hare of Rock Island; and Jan Schakowsky of Evanston.

The Republicans opposed: Mark Kirk of Highland Park, a candidate for the U.S. Senate, Judy Biggert of Hinsdale, Timothy Johnson of Urbana, Don Manzullo of Egan, Peter Roskam of Wheaton, Aaron Schock of Peoria and John Shimkus of Collinsville.

When the House last took up health care reform Nov. 7, the Illinois delegation split along party lines as every Democrat voted "Yes," and every Republican said "No."

Lawmakers on Sunday at first took up a Senate-passed health care reform bill. Next up were modifications that were sought by House Democrats.
