It's no secret that the cost of healthcare in the U.S. is astronomically high and burdensome. So much so, in fact, that millions of Americans are going without health care because they simply cannot afford the costs associated with it -- be it health insurance or the average cost of a doctor's appointment or prescription. In fact, the costs of a doctor's appointment in the U.S. is double what is charged for the same services in France, Canada, and the Netherlands; and the cost of a prescription in the Netherlands is half the price of what is charged in America.

All of this raises the question of why healthcare services are so much more expensive in the U.S. than their global counterparts.
