In a Hill newspaper story about how super-lobbyist Tony Podesta is making millions shilling for corporations during the Obama era, there was this important snippet right at the end. It tells you everything you need to know about how Permanent Washington is, quite literally, laughing at the idea Democrats were ever serious about cleaning up the corrupt swamp:

But Podesta knows that while some politicians are passing through, he's here for the long haul.

"President Obama will hopefully be here for eight years," Podesta said. "And when he leaves, we'll still be here."

The message is simple: No matter what we do, the forces of corruption see themselves as permanently anchored in D.C. - there to make millions shilling for Big Money, without any chance for change.

DC is their gated community - the Rest of Us just get to look at it from outside the fence.
