With the arrest of a suspect in this weekend's attempted car bombing in New York City, Republicans are already complaining that an American citizen may have been read his Miranda rights. No surprise there. The law and order crowd has never really been interested in the law part of the equation.
But this bit from John McCain (R-AZ) is pretty funny:
McCain said Shahzad's apprehension "gives you a little encouragement about the improvements we've made since 9/11."
Let's recap: street vendors noticed the car and alerted police, investigators identified the previous owner from the vehicle identification number, who then identified the man he sold it to and the man was arrested.
In other words, a good, old fashioned alert citizenry and police work. No stripping of rights, no illegal wiretaps, no torture, and the suspect is in custody.
Go figure.
