Chicago, IL - On July 14, over 400 protesters gathered in downtown here to demand justice for Trayvon Martin after his killer, George Zimmerman, was acquitted. This protest came after a 200 person emergency response rally the evening before. Demonstrators demanded, "Not one more! Justice for Trayvon Martin!"

Zimmerman's acquittal comes on the heels of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuelle's closing of 49 schools, primarily in Black and Brown neighborhoods. Airicka Gordon Taylor, cousin of Emmett Till, spoke at the June 14 rally. Emmett Till, a Black youth from Chicago, was murdered in 1955. His killers were also acquitted, but the verdict drew many people into the civil rights movement. Airicka Gordon Taylor told the crowd, "We need a new civil rights movement. I believe this is the case that will...anger Black America to do what's necessary to obtain those rights that we're being stripped of."
