Chuck Hagel is a class act.

I don't care what else you might say about the guy, what else he might have done, how many people he's pissed off or how many he'll likely piss off in the months and years to come; right now he's showing his mensch moves by putting his money where his honor is: volunteering a personal pay cut in solidarity with his staff who are being hit by sequester-enforced furloughs.

A class act.

There are more than 700,000 civilian employees in the Defense Department and they are now facing unpaid furloughs as part of the automatic cuts triggered by the sequestration that went into effect March 1. The duration of the furloughs was originally supposed to be 22 days but that length was cut last week to 14, clearly in a move to spare as much financial pain as possible. From the New York Daily News:

"We understand that we need to take great care with our civilian workforce," [Pentagon Press Secretary George] Little said Tuesday.
