Public Policy Polling recently surveyed the New Hampshire Senate landscape and concluded Sarah Palin's endorsement last week of Republican Kelly Ayotte is hurting her chances at the open seat. The Democratic polling firm notes Ayotte's increasing negatives among moderate voters, compared with Democrat Paul Hodes' positive momentum among the bloc.
Hodes now leads Ayotte among moderates by a 51%-30% margin, a 13-point increase since the last poll in April -- before Palin's endorsement. His standing among moderates has not improved against any other Republican in the race. As PPP notes, "51% of voters in the state say they're less likely to back a Palin endorsed candidate to only 26% who say that support would make them more inclined to vote for someone."
Overall Hodes trails Ayotte 45%-42%, a 4-point narrower margin than in April. Bill Binnie leads Hodes 46%-41%, while Hodes holds a lead against Republicans Ovide Lamontagne (43%-38%) and Jim Bender (43%-42%).
PPP notes that it will be releasing data tomorrow on the Republican primary, which is expected to show that Palin's endorsement is helping Ayotte among GOP voters.
The survey of 900 registerd voters was conducted July 23-25 with a 3.26% margin off error. Check out all the latest polls on the New Hampshire Senate race and RCP's Senate landscape map.
