You know how Republicans spent 2012 deluding themselves into believing that Mitt Romney was going to win the election because Barack Obama was a socialist who says mean things to rich people like "you didn't build that" while Romney was a true patriotic hero willing to protect successful Americans from the 47 percent of the country whose only ambition is to lazily mooch off the productive class?
Well that didn't work out so well and so now that it's 2013, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus has decided it's time for the GOP to finally stop running against Komrade Barack Hussein Alinsky. But that doesn't mean President O'Bummer isn't still their target, he is. It's just that Priebus has apparently decided that the president is now Thurston Howell Obama III, a servant of the plutocracy whose only mission in life is to screw the middle-class.
Priebus makes his case in The Fresno Bee:
A legion of limousine liberals will descend tonight on San Francisco's famed Billionaire's Row. Leading the pack, the most famous limo of them all -- and inside it, the chief liberal, President Barack Obama. So, it turns out that Obama doesn't actually hate rich people after all. Instead, he's their biggest fan. And the only thing standing in his way is—you guessed it—the the true champion of the middle class, the Republican Party.Though now free of the demands of campaign fund-raising, the president has discovered he really, really misses it. So he's back on the big-money circuit, this time for his friends at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
And where better for the self-ordained defender of the middle class to champion his cause than the home of oil heir Gordon Getty, in the heart of Billionaire's Row, the bay-view boulevard where those with ten-figure net-worths snatch up homes with eight-figure price tags. [...]
Americans of all sized-towns have extra cause for frustration these days. Their president has his priorities backward. The "middle class" may be forever on his lips, but it's those "millionaires and billionaires" who have won his heart.
To be clear, I don't think this new strategy of saying Obama sucks because he loves rich people is going to work. But even if it did, someone needs to tell Reince Priebus that 2012 was the last time Obama's name will ever appear on ballot. The GOP needs a new enemy.
