"Thousands of protesters led by Sarah Palin and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, marched to the World War II memorial Sunday tearing down barricades and chanting "Tear down these walls."

The "Million Vet March on the Memorial," which bills itself as a non-partisan group, was also led by anti-Obamacare Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah.

Marchers carried Confederate flags. Another held a sign that read "Respect Our Vets." All the leaders at the march were either speakers or attendees at the Value Voters Summit, according to Raw Story.

The group removed orange cones, saw horses, and three-foot-tall aluminum gates.

According to CNN, some marched to the White House, removing barricades and getting into a shoving match with on-duty police.

They borrowed from former President Ronald Reagan's challenge to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin wall.

They also reportedly sang "God Bless America."

The WWII memorial was closed along with other national parks and malls after the government shutdown Oct. 1. Clinical trials for children with cancer at the National Institutes of Health have also stopped. About 800,000 government employees haven't received a paycheck in almost two weeks.

"Our constitutional rights are being taken away," said protester Jeff Thompkins, according to the Associated Press. "People made the ultimate sacrifice, and they should be open to the public, open to everyone to come down here and see this. This is ridiculous. This is not just and not fair. It's just not fair.""
