"The heroes of 9/11 and their families shouldn't have to wait for a Christmas miracle. Passing the 9/11 first responders bill must be a priority for every single member of Congress because it's an issue that impacts every single American, not just New Yorkers. Our country has a moral obligation to support the brave men and women who risked their lives at Ground Zero just like the men and women who have risked their lives in the wars since then," said IAVA Founder and Executive Director Paul Rieckhoff. "Many Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, myself included, were 9/11 responders that day and in the months after helping with the recovery effort. It's inexcusable to deny any American who served and sacrificed that day access to quality health care, compensation and support. As the 10th anniversary of the attacks approach, we must put partisan politics aside. We applaud Senators Gillibrand and Schumer for keeping this fight alive in Washington and we hope the Senate acts swiftly to take action on this bill."
