After news broke that convicted former Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge will be allowed to keep his pension, Attorney General Lisa Madigan has filed a lawsuit to prevent the benefit. The lawsuit claims that Burge forfeited his pension when he was found guilty of obstruction of justice and perjury. The Illinois Pension Code says that no benefits will be awarded to a person convicted of a felony that is related to their work as a police officer.

The suit seeks to revoke Burge's $3,000-a-month pension and force him to pay back any payments received since January 21 when a Pension Board voted to allow him to keep the benefit.
